Photographer — Geoff Jaeger
Geoff’s interest in photography began as a small child, taking photos with a 1959 Mamiya SLR his mother had bought for her trip to New Zealand in 1960. Her camera almost found its way to San Francisco when two gentlemen aboard the cruise ship Mariposa — on which his mother and her friend were crossing the Tasman — offered to take them onwards to San Francisco; they declined.
For Geoff’s first exhibition AquaUrban in 2010, he removed all the furniture from his tiny 37m2 rooftop apartment in Sydney’s Kings Cross. More than 100 guests spilled out across the rooftop terrace to view the show.
In 2011, 51 years after his mother’s trip, Geoff finally took her Mamiya to San Francisco, along with his Nikon. The three digital photographs in this exhibition are unaltered, taken on the first of two visits that year, lasting six weeks.
Geoff’s initial exhibition success was repeated during two solo shows Reflective Perspectives at the end of 2011 and UrbanClicks in 2012. His later exhibitions include the group shows An InstAffair in Sydney, and The Story of The Creative in New York, both held during 2013.
From there, Geoff spent several years running his own creative business, partly engaged in creating and managing a gallery space in Kings Cross: 2012—2016. It was here he curated more than 40 shows, including work by Robyn Ross.
In 2016 Geoff was invited by Sydney’s Head On Photo Festival — Australia’s premier photography event — to curate work by both Australian and international photographers over a two-year period. From 2011 – 2019 also worked as a communications consultant and writer.
The Bridge Between was his first formal exhibition in eight years before returning to the world of corporate communications in 2021.
